The Project of Renewing the Book Stock of Regional Libraries Has Been Successfully Implemented

Initiated by the Georgian Publishers and Booksellers Association, the Project of Renewing the Book Stock of Regional Libraries was carried out successfully for the eighth time in November 2020.

The project is part of the anti-crisis plan developed by the Georgian Publishers and Booksellers Association to increase state funding for the renewal of book libraries and is carried out in two main stages. Given the current situation, the project aims to aid the publishing sector and minimize losses inflicted on its employees. The project will help renew the book fund of regional libraries and increase the availability of the latest publications for the readers across Georgia. Each of the 64 regional libraries will receive books worth of 700 GEL, selected from the unified digital catalog, with special discounts offered by the publishing houses.

The Project of Renewing the Book Stock of Regional Libraries is implemented annually by the Georgian Publishers and Booksellers Association within the framework of Tbilisi International Book Festival. This year, however, due to the pandemic, a second stage was added to the project. The first stage was carried out online in August 2020. As for the second stage, the Association provided the libraries with the selected books at a pre-arranged location and schedule, fully in line with the recommendations and guidelines provided by the Ministry of Health to fight the further spread of the virus.

Georgian Publishers and Booksellers Association is implementing the project with the support from the Writers' House of Georgia and the Ministry of Culture and Sports of Georgia.
